The Conception of Island Adventure

Scenario summary - The filming of Island Adventure
The filming of the volcanic eruption
Residing on the island of La Réunion since 1967, Alain Gerente was very fortunate, as a movie maker, to locate during several years the sites most isolated .

The practice of canyoning became very essential to find the most inaccessible sites. The discovery of a unique nature in its kind led him to realize that the Reunion island was the place where he could film an ideal movie for IMAX . Therefore the filming of this film took several years of research.
Supported by the "Conseil Régional" of La Réunion
Alain Gerente could start the project "ISLAND ADVENTURE" .

Looking for a producer, he associated himself with Jean-Pierre Chardon and, together, they conceived the first scenario of "ISLAND ADVENTURE" .
The financing took several years and was found in La Réunion.

The Filming of Island Adventure
The filming of "Island Adventure" lasted five months . It ended up being pretty difficult considering the chosen sites . Most of them were inaccessible by road or foot .
So, this film took more than 250 hours of helicopter flight time. The team consisted of about twenty persons and 9 tonnes of equipment to carry. The scenes at the beginning of the movie were filmed at the "Musée Guimet" and at "La Sorbonne" in Paris.
Filming in the canyons was the most difficult part to achieve. The climatic conditions changed constantly . The risk of brutal water flow and rock avalanche brought serious security problems .
Logistics were assured by 4 high mountain guides, under the direction of Pascal Colas, who has explored most of the big canyons in La Réunion .
This phase of the filming required a very small team, and needed the installation of suspended platforms several times .

The first world hike down the waterfall of "Hell Hole" - 1300 feet high - was accomplished by Pascal Colas and Vincent Terrisse .
For cinematographic reasons, this venture had to be repeated seven times .
